Sportsmanship within Competition

I was watching the news last night and heard of an absolutely incredible story.

Western Oregon was playing Central Washington in softball. The girl up to bat from Western Oregon was a senior and had never hit a home run. Turns out, in this game she hit her first pitch over the fence. She rounded first but forgot to touch the base. As she turn back to touch it her knee gave out. She was on the ground unable to get up. Her home run wouldn’t count unless she could make it around and touch home.

Two players from the opposing team, Central Washington, picked her up and carried her past the bases, touching her feet on each one. The hit was a home run.

Incredible.

The story was showcased on ESPN today. Video below.
