Now, I’ve read your blog post. And I actually agree with you that I don’t believe that Jesus would be a Republican … but neither do I think he would be a Democrat. Both parties have enough corruption to make thinking either of them are biblical a bit ridiculous. Look forward to talking with you further.

Pretty cool to read about you up here in my paper! I liked you statement about Jesus voting – that was a good one! I think if Jesus were alive he would be the most unpopular choice; political leaders back then didn’t like him and I think the same would still be the same today. Cool stuff dude!

Good post, Tyler, and honestly, it was a good article. She might not have precisely portrayed how you truly feel about the issue, but it wasn’t hard for me to pick up on. Especially knowing how typical it is for writers to exaggerate their interviewee’s statements to best fit what they’re trying to say in their article.

Greg- I’ve heard great things about both books. Once I get through the 4 books I’m reading right now then I’ll tackle those. Seminary has created a backup of books I’ve wanted to read. Time to catch up.

Ash- Thanks for the comment. I would identify myself as mostly independent or moderate or whatever you want to call that. I’m reading a book on that right now. I’ll probably do some posts on it soon.
Anyway, back to what you brought up. I think it is kind of a nit picky argument, meaning that one of the main ways we help run our government is by voting. I don’t see Jesus being a non voter, but if you do, I have no issues with that at all. I just don’t see a lot of evidence one way or the other with that.
Some would say that Jesus greatly defied the current government and was crucified without committing a crime. The Pharisees were also a part of the cultural government and he defied them too. So I guess I just don’t see this as an argument that is easy to define, thats all. You have some good points on your post though.

Tyler, I read your article in the Seattle Times…and found your blog. I wanted to comment on a statement you make about Jesus. You said at the end that he would not necessarily be voting Republican. Can I venture to say that I believe Jesus wouldn’t be voting at all? Jesus avoided politics. In fact, at one point the Pharisees questioned him on taxes and what did he say? I do agree with the fact that our generation has become almost disoriented w/ the process of politics. I know that I lean toward independent myself (of course, I have to be careful about endorsements b/c of my job)- but I don’t like any of the canidates right now. In fact the one that most interests me isn’t one of the main three. Someone mentioned we’re almost a new “movement.” What I would hope is that by becoming “globally aware,” we’ll simply give to world and perhaps…change it.
