Crazy Love .3 of 3

In light of the crazy love sacrifice of Christ…how should we respond? This isn’t just a question that Christians today struggle with.

In Acts 2:37 a question is posed after a convicting message by Peter: “Brothers, what shall we do?”.

Francis Chan says:

“The first church responded with immediate action: repentance, baptism, selling possessions, sharing the gospel. We respond with words like Amen, Convicting Sermon, Great book…and then are paralyzed as we try to decipher what God wants of our lives.”

I know in my own life, it is a constant journey towards finding God’s purpose for my life. And I think this is what Francis is getting at. Our response to God’s “crazy love” has to be more than just words, something I am very guilty of.

Francis ends his book by saying this:

“A friend of mine once said that Christians are like manure: spread them out and they help everything grow better, but keep them in one big pile and they stink horribly…Most of us use ‘I’m waiting for God to reveal His calling on my life’ as a means of avoiding action. Did you hear God calling you to sit in front of the television yesterday? Or to go on your last vacation? Or exercise this morning? Probably not, but you still did it. The point isn’t that vacations or exercise are wrong, but that we are quick to rationalize our entertainment and priorities yet are slow to commit to serving God.”

Francis’ words pierce like a sharpened blade.

How do serving God and finding your calling coinside for you?

Well serving God and “calling” are the same to me. I am a big believer in “dreams,” not the ones we dream at night, but the big picture and what we want to go after. I firmly believe that God gives us talents, gives, personality traits and interests for a reason. We have to use them, go after them, be willing to live an die for them remembering that God is the composer and as long as we trust him, he’ll be at our front, our back, and each side every step of the way. I have a lot of motivation in the arts, a lot of compassion for the poor, for refugees and I can take these two things and bring them together in a way that will glorify God and love the people of his heart…which by the way is everyone. How? Well the ideas I have and hope to accomplish in my adventure are developing all the time…”so here I go.”

    You stated that perfectly.

I too am reading this book and have posted about it over on my blog.

As for how does my serving and finding my calling coincide for me…..

I dont know Gods plan but I know it will be good. I serve with everything I have yet I feel the need to do more. I have all these feelings and opinions about changing the world and yet I am sitting in a computer chair in comfy suburbia, far from the darkness so many people live in. Not to say this isnt where God wants me for the moment but I think my calling will lead me to many places, all over the world.

Of course the selfish part of me wishes and hopes my calling will me on a beach in Aruba, lol, but I know in my heart that He has great plans for me. Well actually I think He has great plans for anyone who is willing to go where He needs them to go and be part of the change this world needs.

I think how I serve now, giving 100%, will lead me in new directions that bring me to my exact calling and purpose to bring Glory to the Almighty.
