I hope these weekly posts are helpful. I basically link to interesting posts and articles that I’ve read. I should clarify that I’m not supporting everything said in anything I’ve linked to. I think it is good to read things that you disagree with. If you have some interesting posts you have read, send ‘em my way.
I filmed myself all through my day at seminary yesterday…be looking for that next week.
Blogs
- Bob Hyatt has some great thoughts on what to do with the Emerging Church/Emergent distinction…and he is from Portland, so he is worth a read either way!
- A good Q/A with Shane Claiborne…you know how much I dig that guy.
- Todd Hiestand understands the challenge to community within suburbia better than anyone I’ve read.
- Don Hofer (new blogger) wrote a great post on making a difference. Go welcome him to blogging too.
- Jay loves me and Jill
- And Jay was so inspired by my letters to politicians that he wrote one of his own. Enjoy!
- A new blog started recently called “Clergy for Obama”. What I want to know is how these pastors endorsing Obama from a blog is any different than on a Sunday morning? Both are against church tax policy. While I don’t think voting for Obama is wrong for Christians (debate with me on that another time), I do think this is wrong.
- In light of my post on Christian colleges, I think you should take the “integrity of Bible colleges quiz”.
- A recent graduate from Multnomah and a youth pastor in a suburb of Portland died in a tragic accident while he was trying to help someone on the road. Please pray for this situation.
News
- Why people don’t leave town when a hurricane is about to hit.
- As I’m sure you know Palin’s email was hacked this week. 2 thoughts….she wasn’t very smart about securing it, but at least she has email…McCain said he doesn’t even know how to use email (and no I don’t think this matters, it is just funny).
- Total Request Live, better know as “TRL” is done. I have many memories coming home from school and watching that with friends in high school.
Tyler Braun.
the wife of the youth pastor who was killed has a blog. taranewby.blogspot.com God’s grace is amazing.
i think that article about why people don’t leave when expecting a hurricane is interesting. i think that last part of the article as to some of the most common reasons they DO stay was the most important. there are def. people who are defiant, no question there, but there are others who i just simply have compassion for..b/c of the very reasons the article gives…
thanks for the plug. it’s quite an honor coming from you. it’s kinda fun to do this.
