Fortuitous Bouncing

Such is the life of working at a church. I’m busier this week than I am next week.
I will not put money on it, but I have this feeling about the Ducks today. Most of that is because the Beavs will be without their 2nd best player. But again I won’t put money on it because the home team usually wins.
If anyone missed the Nebraska game yesterday (I’m sure that was all of you), my boys looked pretty bad most of the game. But a 57 yard field goal was about the most shocking victory I would have ever expected. They’ll be playing on New Year’s Day for the first time in 6 years.
Blogs
- I recently blogged about Perry Noble telling his staff to resign if they weren’t working their dream job. This week he wrote a post about why pastors should not resign. I just want him to make up his mind.
- Michael Spencer has written a blog letter to Ed Young Jr. regarding his recent push for his congregation to have sex for 7 days straight with their spouses. In my opinion, he makes some great points.
- Tony Jones is blogging about same sex marriage.
- Stephen Baldwin claimed that he would leave the US if Obama was elected President. SHOCKING NEWSFLASH….he isn’t leaving.
- Some encouraging words from GK Chesterson.
- Scot McKnight with some thoughts on 20-somethings and church.
News
- There are some Palin ads running in Alaska, and they were made after the election.
- Wachovia recently got bought out by Wells Fargo. In the news this week was that their top 10 executives got a severance package of around $98 MILLION!!!! I think I just threw up in my mouth.
- Interesting article on how younger generations have less of a desire to learn.
- (This would be a good chance to say that not everything I link to do I agree with. Like that article on young people and learning…I totally disagree, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good read).
- Pray for justice in Mumbai.
- It’s the cover tune grab bag…

Tyler, I think Perry’s post listed alot of things I listed in response to Tony’s post about “Resign Today”. While I think I know what he meant on both counts, it can be confusing! I have worked with staff members who seemed to not enjoy their role at all and I did wonder if they were where God had called them to be. IT wasn’t judgment, just an observation that their passion didn’t seem to be there. It’s funny, but one that I worked with has come a long way and I think was just going through some depression so timing can be everything. As you know, it hasn’t been the most fun assignment at times, although things have improved and we are healing.I fully believe that remaining faithful can be the hardest assignment ever…..
About the 7 day sex challenge – I think that his intent might be to force people to communicate well, etc. I can see where it would be very painful for troubled couples to hear about. The topic of sex does not at all embarass me and I am happy the church is addressing the topic very openly. I used to feel like we left the role of sex education to sitcoms and schoolkids because we certainly weren’t going to touch it! So I suppose I am glad we are addressing it. Not sure I agree with the challenge, but it’s a common counseling “homework assignment” for couples who have grown apart so it doesn’t shock me. I choose to believe the best about his motives. Yes, I believe we can take it too far and become tasteless and crude, but I am happy to see the church step into the subject of marital sexual relations, as we have ignored it for such a long time. We just would say “don’t do it”…..and leave it at that!
That’s alot of money for 11 guys, but was the fed involved in any of this? If not, I don’t really mind. If so…I want my money back
The young people and learning article: I’d like to know WHAT you disagree with…? I absolutely agree w/ the guy. I also think your summation of the article needs to be re-worded…b/c he really goes into more about how Christian audience follows suit and do not want to open up to curiosity, learning or asking questions, challenging what we are TOLD as “Truth.” He ended it perfectly, Jesus in not afraid of our curious minds…minds he created.
