I've heard that church music (contemporary) is going to be resemble Coldplay and U2 within the next few years more and more. I wonder how accurate that claim really is, and, while I don't disagree that sounding like either band isn't a "bad" thing, I wonder if The Church can ever reclaim its glory as the creator and influener of high art and music?

Just some thoughts...

I get how you could read a contradiction there. I think we're talking about two different points though. Churches really don't need 100 different ministries that are each given a little bit of energy, but churches do need pastors who can do more than just preach or just lead worship. Does that help at all?

Tyler,

Do you not think there's a bit of a contradiction between points 1 and 5? I take your point about pastors who specialise and shut themselves away, but what if they specialised and drew others with different gifts alongside them?

BTW, I love Coldplay too but think X&Y was a weak release and must obviously listen to Fix You again on that CD, because it's indelibly associated in my mind with a rather wet performance of it on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.

awesome post...

I have seen them about 4 times and am so amazed everytime I see them...I was looking at a playlist of like 57 songs I have of theirs on this one list...and I was telling my wife, it's like one amazing hit after the other...not a bad song on any albums. just my opinion of course.
