My Trip

Late Tuesday night Rose and I got back from a trip to the Midwest with my family. I grew up there and haven’t been back in over 12 years so it was really fun to see family, go to a Twins game, and enjoy being on vacation. We all had a lot of fun. Here is a video recap of surprising my grandpa for his 80th birthday. Enjoy.

You can look at some of the pictures from the trip here.

Some of the trip highlights:

  • In the Urban Outfitters men’s area, my dad saying, “I think they have some womens clothing mixed in here.” Yeah dad…you aren’t far off there. They call that “style” these days.
  • 3 sips into a margarita Rose said …. “I can tell this is making me warm.”
  • Grandma: “I was at the health club and some girls were talking about their booties and I didn’t know what they are talking about. Booties go on your feet.”
  • The clerk at the general store in Iowa calling a stoplight a “stop-n-go.”
  • People in Iowa apparently don’t do water sports. The only thing people did on Lake Okoboji was drive around, anchor up, and then drink.
  • The Midwest is full of overweight people. I couldn’t believe it. Judging from the food choices it isn’t a big surprise. The phrase “health food” doesn’t exist there.

After a week away, I’m looking forward to finishing the sovereignty series, starting classes, and then blogging more regularly.

your comments made me giggle. It reminded me of my grandparents that I miss so terribly. One night I was with my grandmother at a hotel and I came out of the bathroom and she was watching Jerry Springer! There were about 20 women with GINORMOUS chests (barely covered) on there and she looked at me with such innocence and said “Do you think those can be real?”. I laughed myself silly and said “Um. No. I don’t think so!”. Very funny.

And I had one of those “Urban Outfitters” moments with my son in H & M in San Francisco. I said “I don’t care if that is in style. You are not wearing a shirt with a bow on it!”. He did not want to wear it but just to be clear and all :) . Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Missed you!

Wow. Nice sweeping generalization of the midwest.

Well the Minneapolis area is quite athletic as I remember. Lots of people running around the lakes and such. Northern Iowa was a different story. All the boats were in a bay on the lake and they were all drinking it up. There was one health club in the entire town of 20,000 and it was pretty small…and there really was no health food section in any grocery store I went to.

  3. HA! Some of your bullet points made me LOL! Thanks!

Glad you guys are home!… well… I’m just glad Rose is home, but I’m sure you understand :)

Seems to fall in line with Overflow voting you as the most metrosexual…

Clearly, you did not visit Bloomington, IN.
