Ash-

Good response to that singleness article.

The Rob Bell post was based off his talk at Catalyst. His talk was centered around the 10th Commandment.

single or married article~
i actually responded to it on the site: it went something like this, "cole (author): i believe that reyespoint had the best answer to this.
i think it's very important that you understand, no; jesus did not set a standard for singleness. what he did was talk about the fact that there would be those who would feel compelled by the holy spirit to remain w/o such a relationship. but God created marriage too and it too IS blessed. it is not a standard to be w/o.
thrive in who you are as a single man right now. and when the time comes~ thrive in marriage, should you choose it. both can equally be blessed and beautiful."

rob bell article~ first off, i was annoyed that the writer did not bother to reference bell's statement...in other words, it might have helped where he was when he heard these statements...sorry, it's a grammatical/ref thing. as to the idea: yes i wholeheartedly agree also. the church at large needs to get off numbers, the system by which they live and breathe and focus on the love and discipleship and relationships they are called to. b/c at the end of the day, numbers get you nowhere.

finally, yonas~ and i'm sure there are women aplenty who would swoon over these lovely characteristics of you!

Oh, the tithe issue. I've seen that depressing number before. I read through all the comments on Todd's site, and while I understand cynicism over how a church spends it's money, I've also seen the personal benefits ("blessings" if you will) of tithing to a church.

In addition, I have led various ministries over the past 15+ years, and I've been turned down many times when asking for money--and not for frivolous things, either. In my list of 'life disappointments,' this kind of thing ranks high up there for me.

I tell hubs all the time -- "Give me a person with a God-sized vision, and I'll carry it out." I have now added to that list "...a person with a God-sized vision who also happens to be rich..."

Definitely single is better than married. I can leave my socks (and other garments) on the floor, eat ice cream straight from the container, snore like crazy when sleeping, scratch whenever I feel itchy and not hear a single complaint.Plus date nights for one is much cheaper and I can have the bottle of wine all to myself! :)

btw....Fortuitous bouncing but no post about our president's nobel prize? Tsk tsk Tyler...you're losing your edge!

I'm saddened by the average church giver gives 2.56%.

Ever since my bride and I started to tithe, things changed for us. We've had our struggles, but God always provides. Always.

Snow in Chicago concerns me as well. I want autumn to last at least into November, please.

Blessings!
