Fortuitous Bouncing

Hope you’re enjoying the mentoring series so far, I know I have. It is such a treat to get to see what my friends have to say on a subject I’m passionate about.

Life got really busy for me this week. All our youth programs at Sunset started back up, so I’m back to my hectic schedule of leading worship sometimes 4 different times each week. Hopefully I learned enough during the spring to make it manageable and enjoyable.

The Vikings looked just ok on Thursday night, but at least they aren’t the most overrated team in the NFL. That team? The Cowboys. How anyone is picking a team that has won 1 playoff game in the last 10 years to do anything in the playoffs this year is beyond me.

Blogs

  1. Should worship leaders be paid?
  2. A helpful interview between 2 Godly men (Andy Stanley and Rick Warren)I respect deeply.
  3. Peter Rollins recently spoke at Mars Hill Bible Church on the power of story, and no surprise he had some wonderful things to say.
  4. Want to know how much work goes into crafting what we do at my church on a Sunday, this blog post summarizes it quite well.

Peace be with you.

Abraham Piper had an interesting post on the “Burn a Koran” day reaction.

The NYTimes had a print only article about the 5 percent doctrine. Basically that 5 percent of people are absolutely crazy and they don’t deserve to make the news. Kind of how I feel with this pastor in Florida.

There’s a distinct difference in the two events compared in the Virginia Beach Examiner article you linked.

    a. The Bible burning happened in Gaza, not Florida. The US secretary of state has a little more standing in her own country.

    b. Sec. Clinton spoke out against the Quran burning in hopes of stopping it. It’s difficult to stop an event after it’s already happened.

    c. The event in Gaza happened in 2007–a year and a half before Sec. Clinton because Secretary of State.

Beyond that, the article plays into a vicious us/them dichotomy that is so very destructive. Since crazy extremists claiming to be Muslim once burned some Bibles, it’s perfectly okay for those who carry the name of Christ to do the same? That sort of attitude is the heart of bad politics and it’s even worse Christ likeness.

Don’t really disagree with anything you said. I often link to articles that have a point I felt was worth reading whether I agreed or not. That article is an example of that. It was hard to find an article about the book burning that didn’t bash the pastor. I’ve read enough of those this week.

I can agree with that! In a lot of ways, there’s no reason that fellow should have gotten the exposure he did. To me, he seems to be a megalomaniacal figure that figured this stunt would get his name out there. I can only hope that it’s now over.
