The Three

Less than a week ago it was 95* outside, today we’ll probably get up to 65*. Fall sure came fast.

1. Matthew Lee Anderson wrote a piece for Relevant Magazine following some comments from my favorite person, Pat Robertson. I won’t give away the whole story, but basically Robertson said divorcing and moving on from a spouse who is well into Alzheimers or dementia could be the right decision. I’m sure many people will agree with Robertson, knowing that situation is extremely difficult to navigate. I don’t think it represents sound Biblical thinking though, and neither does Anderson from what he wrote.

“Marriage requires a covenant in part because loyalty is the lifeblood of love. But the body will decay, and the temple will come to ruins…And in the slow corruption of our flesh, the vow takes on a new dimension, making it possible for us to imitate the sacrifice of Christ’s body through the giving of our own.”

2. John Dyer recently wrote about how you and I could never write the book of Revelation. At first the title caught my eye because I disagreed. There was nothing special about any of the Biblical writers, but God used them to bring about his Word. Reading through his whole post though I think he has a convincing argument and one that should give us pause.

“You and I have access to dozens of English translations of the Bible, and we have the most powerful search capacities the Church has ever known – right in our pocket computers. And yet, I would wager that we know much less of the Scriptures than any generation of believers. We have access to the Bible, but we do not know the Bible.”

3. A couple videos to end with. One is a friend of mine, Bryan Dormaier, sharing on what his faith community desires to be about. I like a lot of what is said here:

And lastly, you have to see this video on how to be a Christian hipster. So great.
