Lots of New Music…On a Friday

My usual “Fridays are for New Music” will be replaced by more than the usual new music today. I just have too many songs to talk about to call it the normal Friday music post.

1. The Oscar winning Best Song was called “Falling Slowly” on the movie Once. I’ve heard great things about the movie from Janet, and the soundtrack for the movie has been #1 on iTunes all week. The song is so simple, but has so much life to it. A few bits of information on the man who wrote the son: He is the lead for a band called The Frames. I saw them in Portland about 4 years ago, and they are a great Irish rock band. I don’t think he’ll have to worry about “making it” anymore…Here is the Oscar winning performance.

2. Leeland has a new cd out. Let me first say this, there are only a handful of Christian bands that can keep up with the talent and life of this band. For those of you who don’t even know who they are. Go out and get their 2 albums, you will not be disappointed. I will say that their 2nd isn’t as good as the first. Their first was still the best cd I’ve heard in a long time. Easily 8 phenomenal songs on it. This newest album, “Opposite Way” is solid, but not incredible. My favorite songs: “Opposite Way,” “Brighter Days,” and “May Our Praise.”
3. Augustana, has a great new 3 song EP out. Their new hit song, “Sweet and Low,” is another great song. I have a feeling Augustana is going to be sticking around for a while.

4. The Afters are another great newer Christian band. They have the great ability to play rock and slow it down and be really solid on ballads. I’m really enjoying their new songs “I’m Never Going Back to OK” and “Keeping Me Alive.”

If that isn’t enough new music. I don’t know what is.
