Top 5 Worship Songs Updated Here

This is a constantly changing list for me. I listen to a lot of worship music. It is a genre I like, not just because it involves my job but I honestly have enjoyed singable, congregational Christian music since freshman year of high school. It is amazing to me how the genre of Christian music has changed in the last 5 years. The most popular bands are now ones that write music being sung in church, not just heard on the radio. Here are my top 5 songs right now (not 5 years ago), along with a YouTube video. By the way…there are a lot more than 5 great songs, but these stick out in my mind.

#1- Hosanna by Brooke Fraser, performed with Hillsong United

#2- Happy Day by Tim Hughes

#3- All Because of Jesus by Steve Fee

#4- Saviour King by Hillsong United (awesome video)

#5- Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) by John Newton with addition by Chris Tomlin

Hope you enjoyed the videos. Any songs you think I’m missing?

“Hosanna” is amazing and we have really enjoyed doing “All Because Of Jesus”. We debuted it Easter and I was really happy with how much the church loves it.

Brooke Fraser is one of my favorite female artists right now. Her album is incredible. Her voice is perfect!

I almost made the decision to come your way this week. But I am not able to because of schedule conflicts. We had a friend and church member pass away this week in Newberg and his memorial is on Thursday.

I wouldn’t say her songs are missing but I really liked Vicki Beeching’s first CD.

Here’s a song from her latest

NewSongCafe just posted Steve Fee talking about writing All Because of Jesus on youtube.

Tyler, how do you keep up with the latest songs?
Do you sample them at iTunes? Buy everything from favorite singers?

I tend to just buy everything Hillsongs, Chris Tomlin and Passion puts out.

I use a lot of different things. Worship Together is a good website. I listen to podcasts of other churches, blogs of other worship leaders, study on my own a little on iTunes. Beyond that it just takes an ear of finding a song that works as a singable church song. I don’t really buy that much off of iTunes. I don’t have money for that. I only get the songs I know I will like before hand.

Cool. Would you post some of the churches and worship leaders? I haven’t searched extensively but I usually just find sermons and not the music part of worship services when I’ve looked.

  5. Tyler says:

Yeah I’ll post something here in the next week. Good idea.

  6. Sovann says:

    Sweet. Thanks.

These songs from Glory Revealed, besides By His Wounds which has been on the radio a bunch, are good too.

I’m learning Hosanna right now to lead for Wednesday service. Anointed! Thanks for linking to the video. Do you know if that IS Brooke Fraser singing?

Have you heard anything by Aaron Niequist? He’s my favorite, hands down.

He’s a phenomenal person who writes phenomenal songs.

    Check him out at http://www.aaronniequist.com/.

  9. Tyler says:

i haven’t. thanks for the recommendation.

  10. Janet Fraser says:

p.s. Aaron niequist… Rob Bell’s worship leader… This is My Father’s World arrangement we used… also married to Bill Hybels daughter… and I think maybe he played doubles with Kevin Bacon once

thanks. this was a really helpful post. i have my face in the dirt all day, so i don’t get the chance to listen to the radio and catch up on the latest.

I love it! I was really needing to know about some awesome new worship musice. I have searched and searched and to no avail-until now. PRAISE GOD.

    THANKS,
    Jaclyn

  13. Cool post man. Do you lead with a female when you do this song or do you change the key? If you do change the key, do you change the intro riff?

  14. Tyler says:

Which one of the songs are you referring to?

I’ll assume Hosanna. We’ve actually been doing the Starfield version the past 5 or so times. A little faster, in G instead of E and has a totally different electric part. Much more upbeat and better key for a guy to sing in.
