The Word of God?

Coming out a class discussion on Friday…I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes The Bible the Word of God. Obviously there are many answers, but I’d love to hear from you. I’ll share what I think is the most convincing reason tomorrow. Take a quick second to think about it.

For you, what makes The Bible the Word of God?

first thoughts as 630 in the morning….
obviously the bible was compiled by men, what we know to be the bible was put together by constantine and series of priests and holy men of that time.
so here is how i dissect this-
the torah, the prophets, psalms and ot records were collaborated long ago and recognized by many jewish leaders of the law. that’s easy. now set that aside.

the nt is more tricky. you see it is comprised of 4 gospels and a series of letters to a specific people. this doesn’t mean it doesn’t apply, certainly it does, it just leaves much to interpretation- however, i think that we can take the context of historical fact, the what we know from the gospels (what we know about jesus words and actions) and bounce paul’s letters (among the others) against the truth of the gospels. does that make sense?

christ is truth…the rest are just details.

The Bible is the Word of God because the church says it is

great question…I can’t expect anyone to life, death, morality, salvation and eternity as I do if they don’t believe the Bible is the Word of God. It comes down to FAITH. But it also takes faith to believe that the bible is not the word of god. Like I told a very good friend who does not believe the bible and believes that all roads lead to god: “If you’re right, then we’re both OK for eternity. If I’m right, you’ve got a problem.”
Supporting facts – The Bible claims to be the inspired Word of God; history supports the Bible; many authors over long periods of time point to a single message; it has survived the centuries.

Unity and Diversity – the Bible was written by over 40 different men over a course of 1500 years. When you look at the bible statistically and the overall harmonization between all the different authors and books it is staggering. Not to mention the prophetic works such as the foretelling of Christ. The very fact that over the course of time the Bible stays consistent is mind blowing. This alone can be a powerful example of God’s hand at work in developing His Holy Word.
