Kings

NBC has a new tv show that started Sunday night: Kings.

The show is a contemporary take on the life of David.

I had been looking forward to watching it for quite a while. I can assure you it isn’t often that a major television network bases a tv show on a Biblical story.

Kings-NBC

I was finally able to watch it last night.

For those of you who watched it, what did you think?

I only got to see the second hour…but it looked pretty good. Couple of cheesy lines…

I plan to watch the first hour on nbc.com

I watched it, and loved it. I am a huge Ian McShane fan so that makes me a bit biased.

I assume the character David is played by Ian?

On the Glen Beck show [I only listen for the traffic reports] a female caller made the comment that she had “heard” that it was an attempt to indoctrinate us into the “one-world government” with a king. Then she reminded Glen how West Wing did that with a female president. In Glen’s defense he didn’t blow up or laugh his head off.

I’ve got it tivoed, I hope, to watch later.

It was complete crap. Terrible acting, terrible subplot, completely typical modern tv drama.

    amos! really? you hated it?

i watched it on hulu.com last night. i was actually pretty impressed. of course nbc usually has decent dramas. and the more i think about it..the more i liked it….

of course they made “jack”..aka “jonathan” a little more douch-y than i would have pictured as the story in the bible is told…they made him a little bit like ‘prince harry.’ but then again, it’s supposed to be more modern day.

i think it’s interesting. the last scene was pretty cool…i think it could really start some discussion among people…but we’ll see…–i watch and wait, ya know?

    thanks for the mention tyler

    I really liked Kings!
I hear that not many people watched the premiere, which I think is kind of a bummer.
I am definitely most intrigued by Jack and the route they chose to take his character. I am interested to see where they take it as far as his relationship with David and the transition (which I assume is coming) from jealousy to love and admiration.
One thing that bothers me just a little is that Jack reminds me so much of Chuck from Gossip Girl. (Yes, somewhat unfortunately, I have watched Gossip Girl – Youth Ministry research – honest!) I think the actor even plays a character on Gossip Girl and seems to have pulled a little too much character inspiration from Chuck. Of course, if I had never watched Gossip Girl, I’m sure this wouldn’t even be an issue.
Anyway, I liked it and will continue to watch it. I thought the acting was good and even if I wasn’t interested in the biblical inspiration, I think the story line still would have held my attention the whole time.

there is something i have to get off my chest:
venturing on to the kings website and discussion forum, i am overwhelmed by the number of statements by people desperately wanting david and jack (the jonathan) as gay lovers. they want to claim that theologians don’t know the true relationship of the two men and out right listing their relationship as gay would be progress for today’s society.

    seriously?

in today’s world, cannot two men have a close friendship, brotherhood even, a love for one another w/o it being sexual?! it’s absurd.

and when one person voiced that they would stop watching the show if nbc went that way, they got attacked.

it’s out. thanks guys for listening to my little rant

rant accepted. absurd is a great way to put it I think.

I didn’t see it – but in the past, NBC has pulled something like that (remember their mini-series on Noah) and it turned out to be “Not Biblically Correct” and was slammed with bias and liberalism … I’d be shocked if we didn’t see that happen here as well … we’ll see.
