Fortuitous Bouncing

Only a few days left in the semester for school. One project to finish and one final exam to study for. It will be nice to actually get days off when school is over.

Our spring in Portland has been about the same from February until now. Upper 50s, lower 60s with weeks of rain and weeks of showers, mixed in with a few sunny days. I’m over it.

If you ever have something that you feel is worthy of being included on my weekly lists of blogs and news, please let me know.

  1. A church planter was immediately fired for drinking half a beer. Ridiculous.
  2. This. Was. Incredible.
  3. Slavery is not a thing of the past.
  4. I think I’d work at this church simply because of this picture.
  5. Love this quote from E.B. White.

sorry, tyler: i’m not a huge beck “fan,” but frankly, it’s just a commencement speech. he’s inspiring them on to bigger and greater things in their lives as well as a congrats on getting through college. and for all the disagreements b/t mormon and evangelical sects- the fact is- the majority of the people that watch beck’s show and listen to his radio program are middle america, BIBLE BELT christians. and the reasons for lu’s choosing? political. at the end of the day, it’s a just a commencement speech and it has no bearing on the effect of these students or their future life choices.

also, i think it’s important to note that there are plenty of leaders in the world that we all take inspiration from even in if their personal faith system is not something we agree with….you’ve spent many blogs talking, praising, chastising and defending tiger woods and he’s a buddahist. i don’t see this any differently.

    Ash-

About Beck I think you are absolutely correct. But does that make it right? I have an issue with a Christian school aligning itself so closely to someone who does not share in Christian views yet has a desire to speak into the Christian community. By inviting him to commencement, they are not only stating they agree with his stances, they are widening his audience.

As far as Tiger goes, me supporting him and encouraging others not to throw stones at him has nothing to do with his religion, it has everything to do with my own faults. If I deserve grace, so does he.

re: Glen Beck… Heck, he’s a Mormon…if that’s not ecumenicism what is [tongue firmly in cheek].

aye, tyler, if you deserve grace (which no one does) and if tiger should get it…then how about liberty u. and glenn beck? i don’t think they’re aligning themselves w/ mormonism at all: they’re saying “hey, you’re a political figure, come congrat our students.” who, by the way, may very well watch his program (along w/ jon stewart -as politically liberal as comes and steven colbert, a catholic). it’s asking obama, who’s fishy on abortion to give the commencement speech at notre dame…a catholic school. at the end of the day, it’s meaningless, it’s a graduation speech. frankly, most sr’s are walking so mom will see them…yeh, even the christian ones. i just don’t think that it’s worth an uproar among christian people

and who says we couldn’t take a few lessons from people who see differently than us? i’m talking about adopting their faith system, but even the world has something to offer b/c they too are children of the Most High God. when did Christianity become and “exclusive” club where no one else is allowed to belong? let beck speak, i doubt he’s going to harm them and i doubt w/ his status he’s going to try and convert them. it’s a graduation, not church sermon.

I think every church needs to have Bible ‘n Beer every week! Maybe mix in a little Bible ‘n Burger too.

Wow, I’m a little confused right now. Aren’t all American Christians fundamentalists who love Pat Robertson, and hwen did Jerry Falwell stop being a fundamentalist QUOTE: “Liberty University was going to shed some of its fundamentalist ideals when Falwell Jr. took over.” ? Or am I just swallowing the media reports hook line and sinker down here in Australia.

p.s. I am a heathen committed Atheist, small ‘l’ liberal
