I’m not a big fan of quotes but lately I’ve been latching onto a few.
The last few months of life have felt heavy. Work is draining, church is struggling, and a few other things in life that are probably best not to be shared here.
I ran across this quote yesterday that gave such a wonderful perspective of God’s faithfulness despite the heaviness of life at times.
“The star of hope is still in the sky when the night is blackest.” -Charles Spurgeon
My church is also going through a lot of transition, and while it doesn’t feel right to divulge all the details of it right now, it is safe to say the tension and struggle is immense. Despite that, ministry still goes on. I don’t lead worship or work with volunteers any less. People still need Jesus no matter what transition or change is taking place in any church. And truly the church does exist to encourage the saints, worship Jesus, and tell the Gospel to those who do not follow The Way. That work still continues, or at least should, no matter what.
“When the preferences of the church members are greater than their passion for the gospel, the church is dying.” -Thom Rainer
These quotes have been a push in the right direction for me: That my preferences in church matter not…That God is still God even when life paints doubts.
