Lunch Time

Almost every morning I go downstairs and get email/read blogs/read the Bible. After that I decide it is time to get ready for the day of work. At about that same time I ask my lovely wife if she is able to make me a lunch for the day.

Basically everyday I not only get a lunch, but I get an amazing lunch hand made by my wife. It is truly incredible. She makes great sandwiches and wraps, makes sure to include something healthy (apples or carrots) and then includes something tasty that I’ll like (cookies, chips, granola bar). I am pretty spoiled, I’ll admit that. I know it’s something pretty small, but it means so much to me that she is willing to make my lunch everyday.

What is something little that your significant other does that means the world to you?

When I’m sick? Breakfast, Lunch/Snacks, Dinner, turns the TV On, gets my glasses, my books, runs to the store for meds and the like- sits w/ me and talks in b/t work stuff…all while I lay in bed, all day….He really goes all out to take care of me, when I am miserable! I love it.

you are spoiled. As a newlywed 24 years ago I made my husbands lunch once and he said “Honey, don’t bother making it again. I’d rather make my own.” :) I didn’t intentionally do it bad but he didn’t care for it, is really independant and would just prefer to control that part of his day. It’s been a big joke ever since.

I guess one thing Phil does is he takes it very seriously when I say I need a break. He will whisk me away, even if it’s just to a state park near by. He understands my need for space in a very busy vocation. He is not like me, but he understands and honors what is important to me, if that makes sense. (Like fully supporting – and agreeing to spend the money – for a 2 year retreat community in Chicago)

In that same vein, I think the biggest thing he does for me is believe in me and encourage me to do whatever God is calling me to do and whatever I might need to do to learn and grow as a minister. When I said “Hon, I feel like God is leading me to look into ways to be involved in training indigenous worship leaders in other countries. I might need to go to India or somewhere.” He didn’t bat an eye, just said “Wow, that sounds exciting. What would you do? When would you go?”. I love it that he is not threatened by my job and treats it as being as important as his. I stayed home with our children for 13 years so it was a big adjustment in everyone’s thinking. And he believes I can do anything – lead worship for thousands (only once), write a book, teach, etc. He’s my greatest encourager. Others doubt me, Phil never does. That’s the greatest gift.

Jan and Ash- Awesome, 2 totally different things. I think we’re all spoiled.

    Keep ‘em coming everybody.

Huge majority of the time, I’m the one cooking, serenading, and entertaining the other person. One girl tried to repay me with a special ‘homecooked’ dinner and she ended up serving frozen fish sticks (guess who ended up cooking again that evening). Have I been meeting the wrong kinds of women? :)

Where are the nice girls out there!? LOL.

My hubby gets up early with our 2 year old who rises with the sun….OUCH!!!! He puts on a show for him and lets our daughter and I sleep……until 7:15!!!!

    He’s AWESOME!

    How sweet your wife is!

I love when my husband volunteers to rub my back or feet. I usually end up falling asleep, but it’s so sweet of him to think of me when I know he’s had a long day too

It’s a small thing but huge to me. She says my name, in just the right tone, at just the right time, in just the right way, to let me know that as ugly as I may be acting she still loves me.

I’ve done this for my husband for 11+ years. I even put the mustard in a heart shap under the meat. He probably doesn’t even know it’s there.

I always felt like it wasn’t only a blessing for him, but for our whole family in the finance area.
