Why is Life So Hard?
We are through 2 weeks of a 3 week series by Barbara Feil on: “Why is Life So Hard”? I’ve found the series to be poignant for many people within our congregation. She has based a lot of the series around a book named Writing on the Wall. Based around this idea we’ve had “bumpers” (one minute videos that show before the message) each week.
On Sunday July 27th the bumper we showed was me writing.
…yes I know my handwriting is horrid.
I’m new to the idea of message bumpers, but I really dig them. They provide a great transition from music or announcements to message. They set the pace for the topic and bring me into a place where I’m ready to receive God’s word.
What do you think about bumpers?

nice but the intro and exit shots are out of focus so we can’t read that we’re not allowed to steal, uh! borrow them to use with our worship.
I think such video is really a key way to “hook” someone into a message or a theme. That’s not bad, it’s just like the “story” preachers were told to tell to get people engaged in the message. This does it on a different level. Love to see the rest of them sometime.
And trust me, your handwriting isn’t bad at all. I know of what I speak,

I know that logo is blurry….sorry. I have to blow it up to get the pixels to match the video size. Kind of lame.
I’ll try to get the 2 other bumpers up sometime in the next few weeks.

i’m definitely a fan of using bumpers in our gatherings. but my only concern (not that i’m blaming you or your team of this) is that we spend so much time making a 30-60 second clip, just for it to be used once.
we use bumpers in my middle school ministry, but we use the same ones each week to set up for the three different segments (small groups, teaching, + worship). and they look fantastic because Ryan (ryanfeyer.blogspot.com), our media + tech coordinator, makes them!

looks good. do you do bumpers for even stand alone sundays?? or just series. Sounds like the comment ubove mine only does that on stand alones and YES that would be too much time spend for that. hahaa. but in a series you can use them everyweek. do you also do teasers for the series that havnt come yet??? thanks for sharing.

This video took about 4 minutes to shoot. Our media director then put it together. For this series we have kept a similar theme with each bumper (makes the work easier) but they are all different. We only do bumpers 1/4 of the time. We try not to use material over and over when we have the ability to be creative and do something new (not that you aren’t being creative).
Good ideas though for usre…I think we’ll probably dialogue about using stuff over again now.
