I Love October

October
01
October is the best month of the year. Hands down, it is not even close.
Why you ask?
- Colors other than green and dead grass are everywhere. And it is beautiful. In some places beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe how beautiful it really is.

- October means playoff baseball. Now granted, it will be much less exciting without my Twins playing. But, playoff baseball is still as good as it gets.

- Cool nights and warm afternoons. In October you can still wear a t-shirt in the afternoon, but it sure is nice to be able to go on a walk and feel the night’s chill for the first time in months.
- The NFL season is in full swing.
- School isn’t as stressful as month into the year. Everything kind of has a flow to it and can become enjoyable.
- Halloween is the one night of the year when it is actually cool to be somebody else. Or it is the one night when you can make fun of people for dressing up like idiots.
- Oh…it my birthday in October so that is cool too.
- It is the last chance for summer month. Nothing about November is summery, but in October you still have a chance for some wonderfully warm days.
- My wife and I started dating in October…all good things happen in October
So there are some reasons why October is the best month of the year.
What is your favorite month of the year?

I am in complete agreement about October being the best! My birthday month too!
happy October birthday as well!
GO RED SOX!
You meant the NFL item to be a drawback, right? I mean, October’s nice in spite of that…
reason #10: my birthday (and elaine’s and mandy’s too)
November in Michigan.
Its funny I was planning on blogging about this too. Fall is my favorite season…but Fall is sooo much more pronounced in the MidWest. The colors, smell, brisk air and cider mills are awesome. Not to mention it is also the month of my birth.
Mandy- I’ll be rooting for the Red Sox and the Cubs.
Amos- Seems like a legit reason to me.
Seth- Oh man, NFL season is too good not to be included
Kurt- Very good point. Midwest falls are pretty great especially the farther north you go. As far as I know northeast falls are even better than that. With that said, late October in Oregon is pretty great. The problem with November is snow. We always got a few good snows in Minnesota in November. In the fall I’m not ready for snow yet. I remember one year we got 24 inches on Halloween, that was bizarre.
I don’t know – I think October and April or May would be ties for me. I love the end of winter….the flowers blooming, it being warmer, etc. Today is very fall-like here in the south, a cool breeze, a clear blue sky, it’s gawgeous! (and low humidity too!) We’re heading to the Smokies tonight to spend a day or two in the mountains and I know it’ll be great there as well.
My birthday month is January, and although I know that makes it a VERY SPECIAL month
, it is NOT my favorite month. Dreary, cold, gray skies. yuck. I am not a fan of winter, even southern ones.
I totally agree. Autumn rocks! Baseball rocks! And my wife Chris was born October 13.
Nice,
Randy
October is the best. March and April are usually pretty depressing, although every once in a while a random 75* day will pop up, which is awesome! God’s little way of breaking up the rainy-day-blahs for us
Agree with you on the baseball thing, definitely disagree about school getting LESS stressful during October. Midterms, anyone? I had my first one day, and the rest of the month looks nuts.
The weather is amazing, though.
and GO RAYS!!!
in October, the scenery in Ohio is the most beautiful and certainly something I miss. the leaves are the perfect change of colors, slowly falling off trees and ah, how I remember beautiful walks in the cemetery….as a kid i remember afternoon picnics and sitting out by the pond at the far back of the cemetery, tossing up leaves…sounds weird, I know, but very common for me. October is probably my second favorite month of the year…
July is my first…hot summer, perfect time to go to the beach, my birthday, warm nights by the ocean, I love the sunset and the chance to be outside all day if I can…Then again, the fall time by the beach is just as nice: crisp thinning air and warm enough to sit there for hours…ah, how season change and pass.
I just might agree. Fall is my favorite season, and each of those months are right towards the top for me.
Ash- Yeah July is a great month…I’d have to give October the nod though. Too many places are too hot to enjoy the outdoors in July. October is the perfect mix of rain/sun, warm/cold.
Forget Oregon, Michigan, and Minnesota…October in East Tennessee is the best! EVER! The Appalachian Trail, where the Blue Ridge, Great Smoky, and Appalachian Mountains all run together is easily one of the most beautiful places on the planet this time of year.
