Just One Question

2008 October 20
by Tyler

I was talking with a friend last week about blogging and how a lot of my readers don’t know me outside of blogging and possibly Facebook. It got me thinking a little and I’m looking for your feedback here. I’d appreciate anything you have to say, I really would.

Why do you read Man of Depravity (otherwise known as Tyler’s blog)?

Why do you read?

Why do you read?

And no this doesn’t have to be a Tyler love-fest…I’m not looking for a bunch of compliments. I’m honestly just curious as to why you read what I have to say.

I stumbled upon your blog just by chance. From one of the hundreds of other blogs in my netvibes reader. I enjoy your posts, keep up the good work!

I like to know a bit more about the people that are on stage at church.
My husband occasionally sings with the worship team, so reading blogs is my way of knowing a bit about the people that he knows a bit.
    I guess I like to…know a bit.
    And I like to read.

well….I found your blog from a link…and I find your thoughts to be honest, practical, and compelling me to think outside my little box/world … as well as entertaining! Thanks for sharing!!!!!

  4. Seth says:

    It’s the hair.

Or maybe just that you write on a lot of topics, so that keeps it interesting.

Hmmm..my world is pretty small right now with little ones at home. I like to read about what is going on in the world and to give me something to think about it…otherwise, my thoughts are basically on the letter of the day from Sesame Street. Thanks for bringing me some adult-type musings! :)

  6. i hate this blog. i have no idea why i read it.
    hahaha…
because you have interesting things to talk about. and because i’m vicariously carrying out my dreams of living in Portland through you.

I found your blog via the Multnomah Blogosphere. I browse the whole thing pretty regularly, and while usually people’s blogs are full of content that is either only interesting on a personal level or on a topical level, yours seems to touch on much of life in a way that “resonates” with me (I just love overused catch phrases). I suppose it’s topical, but mostly topics I identify with. Oh, and I love the worship videos you’ve posted lately.

because my life is pretty quiet. I need something to raise my blood pressure.

    ha!

Can’t remember how I got linked to your blog. I remember first hearing you sing in church (at Sunset), being blown away and asking Janet who you were but as for your blog, I enjoy it b/c you are very transparent and insightful. The more I get to “know” you through your blog and your worship leadership, the more I love you….like the brother in Christ that you are,…but the hair……the mom in me is just shaking my head…..

I read because you are one of those people in my age group who is a “mover”. Your brain appears to be constantly looking deeper or, looking differently, at the world around you and constantly trying to view it from a different perspective to better yourself. You’re not afraid to share your thoughts and opinions with people and you’re able to do it in a way that stimulates conversation rather than stifling it.

I’m also a blog stalker so that’s a reason. And I think your wife is awesome so that means you’re awesome.

  12. Tyler says:

I had thought it would be great to respond to all of you by email but I realize now that just isn’t going to happen. Too much homework and I think my wife wants to see me sometime today… :)

Thanks for all of you who have responded already. And a special thanks for the “lurkers” who came out of hiding for their first comments.

Debbie was the first one to clue me into your blog. I read it because I enjoy your spiritual and political insights.

I read your blog because of the novelty of a guy taking the time to be reflective about things in his life.
I like to hear about the books you’re reading, your thoughts on politics (well, sometimes =0) ), and your appreciation for family and friends.
It’s been fun following your travels this year, and some pictures/videos to go with them.
By reading your posts, I have the opportunity to gain insight into your sports fervor. (!)
It’s always fun seeing the other topics you bring up, usually on-line right at midnight, for the daily posting!
I could name a bunch of other reasons….

    Keep up the great work!

I like reading your blog because the subjects that you bring up, as well as the links that you share, bring such varied responses in the comment section. I like that. I like that your blog seems to be a safe place for people to not necessarily agree with each other. Diverse (but kind) perspectives makes great bait for my attention.

    Tyler
I enjoy your view on things. I know you are in the midst of studies… so maybe I’m learning from you as you struggle with the things that I struggled with in seminary. Every theological instution requires that you take apart the car so you know how it works. Maybe I appreciate that more now in retrospect than I did when I was going through it.

Not that we always agree on everything–I find your passion for truth to be the thing that draws me back to Man of Depravity.

Besides–who else do I know in Oregon!
