Inauguration Thoughts
2009

For some reason I decided to go on a Twitter binge this morning during the Inauguration (you can follow me on Twitter HERE). Kind of surreal to realize you are watching history live. What a day, what a moment.
Here are my thoughts on the morning:
- Biggest decision this morning is what channel to watch. Who has the best coverage and the best HD? Either NBC or CNN I think.
- Here’s a fun game: can you guess how many pairs of long-underwear are on stage and in the Mall?
- That is why Rick Warren was asked to pray. He brought it.
- A moment that will live in history. If only they could get the oath right.
- A sight to see.
- Well what is new…another incredible speech by now President Obama.
- Someone please tell Roland Martin (CNN analyst) his hat looks ridiculous.

Tyler Braun.
I had to drive to work and missed the Live speech
Best Cov- CNN
Rick Warren “brought it.”…what, like it was 1999? You’re corny. But yes, his prayer was amazing.
And I think the most amazing thing Obama said was “your people will judge you by what you build not by what you destroy”…I hope he too recognizes this at heart, b/c of if so the next 4 years have much more potential.
It’s a “brand new day.”
We shall see what happens next
Yonas- Not sure if you know this, but most cars have radios. I think you could have listened on one of them
Ash- Brought it, meaning his prayer was intense. He isn’t really an intense speaker but his prayer had passion in it.
I tried Tyler!! I couldn’t find the right channel!!
Warren’s invocation was good, until he started in on all the “Americanism” rhetoric. I didn’t like it when he said, “Help us, O God, to remember that we are Americans…” I think I would have preferred something having to do with what Jesus said or something biblical. BUT! I liked how he started out with the Shemah and ended with the Lord’s prayer.
Yonas- Weird that you couldn’t find it. Sorry man. I don’t think it will be too hard to find a replay of it on the internet.
Ric- I was just glad that he mentioned Jesus. I wasn’t sure how much of his prayer would be regulated. What I liked most was his passion and intensity. That isn’t his normal personality so I was happy to see that.
We watched with our entire off/pastoral staff this AM. it was awesome to do that with them. The most surreal moment for me was watching the Bush and Obama walk out of the building. Bush gets on the helicopter. Obama waves, turns around and heads back in. Was moving, strange and historical all at the same time.
yes, tyler, i know what meant, but that wasn’t my point. my point was to jab at language, b/c i can. it made me laugh– boys!
Brought it? Ha..it has been brought! (believe it or not it’s a line from Bring it On again…and don’t know why I know that line!!!)
What did you think of the benediction? I thought it was much more moving and brilliant that Warren. I felt that Warren was too scripted, didn’t seem spirit led, felt preachier than prayer to me. Funny how we “grade” prayers.
Mike- Benediction was solid except for his black, brown, yellow, white comment…sure it was funny, but I was mostly confused as to how it fit in with the rest of what he was saying. Other than that I thought he sounded wise through his voice and in what he shared.
yonas, Bring it On Again? I mean really? Are you that fascinated w/ teenage girls…or pretend ones in girly cheer movies? aye aye aye
I thought Rick’s prayer was only ok. I also was looking for something more biblical.
Uhmmmm..Ash my answer would be NO on that.
I’m much more fascinated by Carl’s Junior six dollar guac burger waay than my fascination (or lack thereof) with teenagers.
We’ll talk again about my fascination some other time, but as of right now..I’m hungry.
