Takes Me Right There

Everyone has those song(s) that can take them right into a place of worship. For some it is the song that makes their hands go right up in the air or urges them to stand up out of their chair, for others it is a song that makes them laugh or cry.

Usually the song has a connection to a key point in that person’s life and contains an extremely personal and special meaning.

Some people refer to this kind of a song by saying, “it takes me right there.”

For me one of those songs is Blessed Be the Name because it reminds me of when I first started leading worship for adults. It was also a song I sang a lot during some heavy stuff I was going through during freshman year of college.

So I’m curious…

What is that one song for you?

“Revelation Song” does it for me. “Made Me Glad” always ministers to me because it’s the song that ministered so deeply to me after my friend’s suicide. I had not just sat in worship since it happened, I had always been leading, always in charge. I went away to a class at Integrity and someone used it in our morning worship and I just fell apart. I thought “God you’ll have to make me glad because I can’t imagine be happy right now.” It reminds me that God meets us where we are.

Lots of songs do it for me, but a lasting one has been Reuben Morgan’s “Still”, which came during a particularly tough time.

    ‘My Glorious” -delirious

  4. Levi says:

“Be Thou My Vision” for no specifically personal reason, except for the personal declaration in the lyrics. I especially appreciate Pedro the Lion’s take on this classic.

  5. pjtowle says:

    Crowder’s “Never Let Go.”
    Tomlin’s “Wonderful Maker.”
A new one to the fold: John Mark McMillan’s “How He Loves.”

Hymns always get me. “Be Thou My Vision” was sung at my wedding and it would certainly quality. But since it’s already been mentioned, I’ll throw in “Be Still My Soul.”

  7. Seth says:

“How Great You Are” – the Newsong “messed-with” version of “How Great Thou Art.”

    God of Wonders…….

  9. chad says:

“It is Well with My Soul” and “Came to My Rescue”

From the Inside Out – Hillsong United
You are Holy – Jon Morris (everytime I sing this song God gave me it just break me, I’m so undeserving to get to lead people in worship)
Great is The Faithfulness – lyrically it moves me everytime

    great question today.

    You’re Beautiful- Telecast
    The Stand- Hillsong
    Fire Fall Down- Hillsong
Be Thou My Vision by Whoever

and in terms of upbeat worship, You Deserve by Hillsong and Shout it Out by Generation Ministries always get me pumped.

  12. Marshall says:

    Whoops.

You’re Beautiful is by Phil Wickam. Solid Rock is just toying with my brain.

All Telecast songs are pretty too though.

  13. Gar says:

“Be Thou My Vision” by Ginny Owens, since she is blind
    and
“Whatever you’re Doing” by Sanctus Real

  14. Kaley says:

Definitely “From the Inside Out” (by Hillsong?) and “Be Thou My Vision” (I usually go with Jars of Clay, but it doesn’t really matter)
