Fortuitous Bouncing

Every year in June Portlanders complain about how summer will never come. And then July hits and summer arrives and everyone is happy. This year was no different.

My brother has his quirks, even he would admit that. Somehow his favorite holiday of the year is 4th of July. I think he just wants to be different. Not that 4th of July isn’t a great holiday (good weather, lots of daylight, focus on the blessing of living in a great country), but favorite? Seems like a bit much to me.

  1. A conversation with worship pastors about missional living. I love to see guys showing how worship pastors are more than just church musicians trying to sing their favorite songs.
  2. Great to see the Paradigm Project getting some buzz this week on Mashable. “Can two guys fix dangerous cooking in Africa?”
  3. After all, in the end sports are just a game. “Sometimes things work out and everything is awesome.  Sometimes things go wrong and it’s difficult to watch.  You endure the hard times so that the good times are that much sweeter.  Choosing to become bitter just robs you of any enjoyment you might get from this sport that you supposedly care about. “
  4. Interesting perspective on the newly release Google+. It seems they’re focused on creating privacy within a social venue. And maybe there is a valid thought that social and privacy don’t collide well.

News

  1. Karen wrote an op-ed piece (and was later interviewed on CNN) about the “comical” parents/kids book titled Go the F*** to Sleep. She didn’t hold back and people went ballistic over it. “For far too many kids, the obscenities found in Mansbach’s book are a common, everyday household language. Swearing is how parents across the social, educational and economic strata express their disappointments or anxieties, their frustrations and outright anger at their children. Sometimes the biggest bully in the neighborhood lives in the same house you do. Sometimes it’s your parent.”
  2. This is such a creative website. Essentially it creates a color collage of the New York skyline over the previous few hours.
  3. It seems that no college football program can reach elite program status without some form of cheating. This isn’t going to go well for you Duck fans in Oregon.
  4. Favorite (favorite isn’t the right word because the post is tough to read). Best post of the week on “how to land your kid in therapy.” A must read for parents and those who care about today’s children.

Enjoy the long weekend for those of you in the States.
