New Nooma for Free

The new Nooma video “Open” is out for free for the next 36 hours or so on Facebook. You can check it out here. I wonder what you think about it? Open is a great title for it because it does leave things very open, theologically. Rob Bell is almost saying that we have the ability to change God through our prayers, that we are able to be a part of the further creation. While I think this is nice on the ears and fun to think about, it has a lot of problems biblically (in my interpretation). Maybe I’m taking what he said too far, but he is certainly going down the road.

Here are some other takes on the video.

hmmm. i didn’t pick up on the idea of us changing God through prayer. I figured that he was referring to a transformation inside of us when we pray. that we become connected fully with Him and can begin to feel His hand working in us.
I’ve been working with homeless people for almost two months now and loved the line, “Don’t pray for God to feed someone who is hungry if you have plenty of food.” How often do we as Christians simply pray for the easy way out instead of sacrificing what we have to better those around us?? I blogged about that with one of my posts on Vinny but it is so true though. It really strikes home hard and challenges you to see what you are praying for and where your heart is in prayer. The easy wrong…or the hard right?

I think its interesting about prayer too that Rob Bell didn’t touch on. Most of the time, we pray for miracles so that change takes place. Instead maybe we should pray for opportunities where we can work alongside of God to put the change in place :)

    Sweet. Thanks for posting this.
I’ve seen brief clips of Nooma I haven’t really looked at it in depth. I’m looking at small group curriculum ideas for our church.

Tyler, I think you already know from my blog post how I feel and what I believe he’s preaching. He doesn’t come right out and say it, but what he’s getting at is spiritism: God as a cosmic shaman tapping into mana for creation and we can tap into that mana too and create. None of it has its root in sound biblical exegesis.
