Homer, AK

This morning (it is still Monday in Alaska right now) we got up at 3am Alaska time….and FINALLY we made it to Homer at 9pm. It was a long day. Our 4 hour layover in Juneau turned into a 9 hour layover (not cool). So where is Homer you ask? Well let me tell you. It is on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula, a 4.5 hour drive south of Anchorage. Let the maps explain:

Here is a closer look at the Kenai Peninsula (Homer is the big red dot):

The incredible thing is that this is the view when you finally arrive in Homer. I don’t think I need to tell you that the view makes the trip well worth it. This is where I call home for the next week.

That piece of land out into the water is called “The Spit”. It is a man-made piece of land that extends into Kachemak Bay for 4.5 miles (halfway across the bay). It houses many summer time boat companies, a year round hotel, and the harbor of Homer.

Hope you enjoyed the geography lesson.

Tam- Sorry! I’ll explain it better in person. Let me explain it this way. I am 5 hours away from a city with any size to it. Anchorage is similar to the size of Salem and it is 5 hours away. Basically, I’m in the middle of no where.

My 15 year old son went to Alaska this summer and fell in love with it. Your pics are breathtaking…they look very similar to my son’s. Incredible country up there.

    Tyler,

if you get a chance, take a boat over to Halibut Cove and have a meal and a delightful exploratory walk.

you are in one of my favorite places in the world.

The orthodox church at Ninilchik just north of you is also incredible.

    And on and on!!

Have fun. I am so jealous.
