I Survived

I survived a winter storm (a legit one, even in Oregon) in a car with front wheel drive, no chains, no traction tires, and no shovel.

How about you?

So we used chains and survived. The closest call was yesterday. The day before I had gone out and “lost” the chains on the driver side tire. Yesterday I attempted to go out and the car go stuck 30 feet out of my driveway in our cul-de-sac on flat ground. However, in the process I noticed that the chains were not lost at all, just stuck around the axle. So I used a shovel and dug out and got my car back in my garage, put the chains back on and ventured out to test the neighborhood.
After nearly playing pinball with the other cars parked on the street, I decided that we needed to stay in. Who knows what problems we will get into while out. And once it freezes again we may be in for it. Not to mention the fear that the chains would break again and then I’m really stuck.

1 Nissan truck with rear wheel drive. 1 Mazda MPV minivan with front wheel drive. Threw a chain on the Nissan 4 times, and we lost the right on the Mazda. It’s just gone. Shoveled my driveway three times. Tyler, I envy you.

There’s an old saying, “God watches out for drunks and fools” All I can say is good luck. I chained up for the FIRST time since 1991 when I moved here. Drove a minivan with a 19′ travel trailer up over the Siskious without chains the week after Christmas. This was worse…
