one of the things i struggle w/ when it concerned the “left behind” series was this idea that they planted in people that there is going to be a rapture and “that’s a fact.” it almost created a fear. but see, i have a hard time believing in their idea of a rapture. to me, it seems a little absurd that the God of the Universe would “take all the good guys away, leave the world in disarray and leave them to figure it out for themselves!” the bible in never clear that there will be a rapture. it’s a theory and “left behind” are works of fiction. yes, it’s like basing your whole system on the shack!- it’s great book, w/ great ideas, but it shouldn’t be the bible or your whole basis of faith. nor should these books be the basis of the end times. at one point, the journalist asks Lahaye HOW he knows there will be a rapture. he never gives her a solid answer. ironic.

OMG if you can’t help us for gosh sakes don’t hurt us. I am more and more convinced the Church is the only group that arranges it’s firing squad in a circle. There is no rapture at least as taught in left behind, late great planet earth etc. A great exegetical book on the subject is by Dr. George Ladd, Our Blessed Hope.

The theology besides, to label anyone Antichrist or one of the two horns or whatever is tantamount to saying we know something Jesus didn’t know namely the time of his return. I’m going to be explaining this to a group of people in a week or so I bet… I’ve got enough important stuff to do can’t we just shut them up…

Sorry for the rant. long day.

After watching the interview when it first aired and again now, I disagree with the take on LaHaye/Jenkins “offering up an alternative to Obama being the anti-Christ.” On his blog and in the full interview, Jerry Jenkins clearly states that Obama isn’t the anti-christ, and that seems to be largely ignored.

Until the anti-Christ arrives, every man is the person preceding the anti-Christ.
