The Ultimate Pandemic: Swine Flu

I apologize if you are genuinely worried about swine flu.

Part of me sees hundreds of schools closing and people staying home and thinks the news networks got the best of us, and then part of me thinks that is probably the best way to end this whole thing. Now that the WHO has raised swine flu to a level 5, that basically means it is a pandemic, so I guess we should be worried…or not. I’m not sure.

I saw this yesterday and thought it was way too funny not to share. This is how Jay Leno, Stephen Colbert, and Jon Stewart are dealing with swine flu on their various shows:

Hope you enjoyed that as much as I did.

Now go wash your hands!

The tricky thing with the word “pandemic” is that it just means that it’s spread all over the globe… NOT necessarily that people all over have been dropping like flies, but just that it’s reaching areas rapidly.

Considering that, I’d say that car accidents are a pandemic. And, I’d also say that I’m more likely to die in a car crash on the 35 mph street outside the seminary.

Of course, if we weren’t so careful, and didn’t take such precautions, we may have a real problem on our hands. It’ll be a joke if it stays a joke, but if it evolves and really causes a problem, Leno won’t be laughing.

Thank you for this. It made me smile :)

I am absolutely certain that illness is not something to take lightly. Wash your hands. Prepare your food correctly. Stay out of public places when your ill to not affect others. These are common sense things. I am absolutely certain that if we are to do this…we will be fine.

With that said, the media is HORRID!

I am not sure why they have chosen to latch onto this one. We all remember the dreaded bird flu. Sheesh. So far confirmed deaths bu Swine Flu (Which actually can’t kill you, it just increases your chance of pneumonia which can be deadly) is 9. Actual worldwide deaths, for all time, of the Bird Flu…108. Actual deaths by flu related symptoms in the USA in 2008…Over 30,000!

    Yup…Media…Hype…
    :)

[...] A time to Remember: When Swine Flu Appeared A bunch of people are panicking about the Piggy Flu. I’m really not. I mean,  I think the media is going overboard with this and making people go crazy. I don’t underestimate the fact that people are sick and dying but I believe the news are making this a much bigger deal than what it is. Some comedians have been using this as material for their jokes and her you can see some good commentary on that… See it! [...]
