An Earful of Bliss

You have almost zero reason to take my advice when choosing the music you listen to.

My personal opinion is that I have a decent ear for hearing songs that I think others will enjoy and are musically solid. But of course, you would have to take my word for it.

Last week Jars of Clay came out with a new album. Yep, the same Jars of Clay that came out with their best cd at their first shot back in 1995.

You could say I’m a Jars of Clay fan. In fact, my senior year of high school  a few buddies of mine and I led an all Jars of Clay worship set on a Sunday morning. It was incredible.

I can name about 2 bands that are as “contemporary” as Jars of Clay. What I mean by that is that they don’t sound like every other Christian artist you can listen to at your local Christian bookstore. They are unique and they’re still good even 15 years later.

This latest album is my favorite of theirs as far as its completeness since their first album (I’m not joking). They’ve had moments in other albums and had some incredible songs, but this album is complete.

My favorites are: Closer, Safe to Land, and Headphones (which features Katie Herzig, who is also phenomenal if you haven’t heard her before).

Here is Closer (video embedded):

And this is Safe to Land, which has a similar feel to Worlds Apart one of their most well known songs.

I like to call this kind of album an earful of bliss.

Enjoy.

Kind of funny, I was telling my wife last night that this album is one of the first I can just listen to over and over again since their first.

We saw them with PFR before they had even released the first album. You knew then that they were good. Just something really authentic about them.

Two Hands is my favorite followed by Headphones and Forgive Me.

It is actually in the computer right now which I guess means I’m having an earful of bliss.

I love this CD. It took a minute to grow on me, but I am in love with it now. Thanks for spreading the love! Jars just keeps getting better and better!

Someone’s been listening to Snow Patrol. But honestly, if you’re going to try to emulate a sound, choosing a popular band is the way to go.
